K-12 education online

For nearly ten years, UVa’s engineering school has been using its distance learning capabilities to support the push of engineering education into K-12 classrooms. Each fall semester, the school offers an introduction to engineering course (ENGR 1520 Explorations in Engineering) to highly motivated 11th and 12th grade students. The primary focus of the course is a set of four team-based assignments that introduce students to the engineering design process.

The Steps of Engineering Design

Students enrolled in the course pay standard UVa tuition rates and earn 3 hours of college credit. The course includes weekly asynchronous lessons, combined with weekly live meeting and discussion sessions, conducted over the internet. More information on the course offering is available through the following links.
